Maria "Jacinta" Silva Fernandez [Spanish: María Silva Fernández] (15 May 1904 – 29 July 2016), also known as Jacinta Silva, was a Uruguayan supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). She's the oldest (known) person ever from Uruguay.
Biography
Maria Jacinta was born in Treinta y Tres, Uruguay on 15 May 1904. Her father was Juan Francisco Silva, who joined the revolutionary army of General Aparicio Saravia when his wife was pregnant. On 1 September 1904, after the battle of Masoller, he returned home and his daughter, Maria Jacinta had already been born. From her early years she worked as a domestic worker. She was a washerwoman and worked as a cook in a school for many years.
Her husband, Claudio Gonzalez, died in 1989. They had 11 children. She gave birth to her first child, Ofelia at the age of 25. Her youngest child, daughter Flora was born when Maria was 45.
In May 2014, she celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian. In 2016, she had 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She lived in a small house in the Piedras Blancas, Montevideo with two of her children: Francisco (aged 72 in 2016) and Victor Hugo (aged 80 in 2016). Her oldest daughter, Ofelia, was still alive in 2016 at the age of 87.
Maria Jacinta died in Montevideo, Uruguay on 29 July 2016 at the age of 112 years, 75 days.
