Maria Luisa "Lulu" Vazquez de Silva (29 March 1910 – 24 December 2021) was a Spanish supercentenarian whose age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2022.

Biography[]

Vazquez de Silva was born in the street of Travesia Padre Amoedo in Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain, on 29 March 1910. She was fourth of eight children in her family. One of her siblings died few months before she was born. Due to the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic, she attended a boarding school together with her sisters. Two of her brothers, Tito, and Quique, fought in the Spanish Civil War. At the age of 38, she married Juan Jose Harguindey, but they had no children. They have spent next 24 years in Santiago de Compostela, until her husband, who was a doctor, became ill and they came back to Pontevedra.

Vazquez de Silva died in Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain on 24 December 2021 at the age of 111 years, 270 days. At the time of her death, she was the oldest known living person in Galicia, and the fourth-oldest known living person in Spain, behind Maria Branyas Morera, Saturnino de la Fuente Garcia, and Josefa San Roman Mateos.
