Maria Nieves Rivera Cruz (10 October 1902 – 6 February 2015) was a Puerto Rican supercentenarian whose age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2021. At the time of her death, she was the oldest known living person in Puerto Rico.
Biography[]
Maria Rivera Cruz was born in Tejas, Humacao, Puerto Rico on 10 October 1902 to Pablo Cruz and Petronlia Rivera. She married Geronimo De Leon and they had 5 children: Santos, Maria Providencia, Julio, Maria Esperanza, and Clara Hermas. She was known as "Dona Bibi". In 2013, she had 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Maria Rivera Cruz died in Tejas, Las Piedras, Puerto Rico on 6 February 2015 at the age of 112 years, 119 days. Following her death, then 111-year-old Amparo Cora de Santiago became the oldest known living person in Puerto Rico.
