Maria Virgínia de Abreu Ferreira de Almeida Pestana (3 April 1899 – 1 August 2010) was a Portuguese supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). She was the second-oldest person from Portugal (after Maria Luiza Nunes da Silva) at the time of her death.
Biography
She was born on 3 April 1899 in Porto, Portugal. Her father was a doctor and her mother died when she was five years. She was a member of the first class of women to enter Portuguese higher education in 1917 and founder of the first female student republic of Coimbra. In c.1931, she married Ernesto Pestana, who later became Civil Governor of Coimbra. She had 6 children, 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
She died in Coimbra, Portugal on 1 August 2010 at the age of 111 years, 120 days.
