Maria da Conceicao [Portuguese: Conceição] (7 December 1904 – 9 October 2017) was a Portuguese supercentenarian whose age is validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO) and recognized by LongeviQuest (LQ) and validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Maria da Conceicao was born in the parish of Sao Miguel, Penela, Coimbra District, Portugal on 7 December 1904 to Antonio Luis and Maria da Gloria. She allegedly witnessed the Miracle of the Sun on 13 October 1917.
She married at the age of 22 on 17 February 1927 with David Maria Duarte, in Penela. At some point in her life, she became a widow.
Maria da Conceicao lived in her own house, in Sao Sebastiao, Penela, until she lost her independence. Then she moved to the parish of Real, Braga District, where her only daughter lived at that time. Until the age of 111, she still went to the backyard of her daughter's house, and at the age of 112 she was living in a nursing home and had some health issues.
She became the oldest known living person from Portugal since the death of 111-year-old Laurinda da Conceicao on 9 November 2015.
Maria da Conceicao died in the parish of Real, Braga District, Portugal on 9 October 2017 at the age of 112 years, 306 days. Her funeral took place in Penela, Coimbra District. Her age was verified by Gabriel Lemos, and validated by the ESO on 13 April 2023. The validation was accepted by LongeviQuest shortly after.
