Maria de los Angeles Irias de Morga [Spanish: María de los Angeles Irías de Morga] (25 April 1915 – 15 March 2025) was a Honduran centenarian who was the oldest known living person in Honduras at the time of her death.
Biography[]
Maria de los Angeles Irias was born in Danli, El Paraiso Department, Honduras, on 25 April 1915 to Juan Irias and María Alvarado. She was the eldest of five siblings. At the age of 10, her mother passed, that left her and her siblings to be raised by their aunt, Julia Irías. She attended the Pedro Nufio School; she studied until 5th grade. After that, she learned to sew from Elvia Castellanos, her godmother, who happened to be the one of the best seamstresses and dress designers in the area.
At the age of 20, she worked at a store owned by Lucila Gamero de Medina, who would encourage Irias to read, which became her hobby even in her twilight years. She worked there until she was 24. On 12 October 1946, she married José Morga Vallecillo. They had 3 children, Nelly Vallecillo, Dilcia Vallecillo, and a son who died in infancy.
She was widowed in 1988. When she was asked what was her secret to her longevity, she attributed her faith in God, maintaining good eating practices, and knowing how to live, and socialise. At the age of 103, her daily activities included watching masses in television. She was a member of the Legion of Mary.
On 7 September 2024, following the death of 110-year-old Jose Angel Flores Vallecillo, she became the oldest known living person in Honduras.
Maria de los Angeles Irias died in Danli, El Paraiso Department, Honduras, on 15 March 2025, at the age of 109 years, 324 days.
