Marian Fuks (born 28 September 1914) is a Polish centenarian and historian specializing in the history of Polish Jews in Warsaw.

Biography

Marian Fuks was born in Plonsk, Masovian Voivodeship, Russian Empire (now Poland) on 28 September 1914 into a Jewish family.

As a reservist of the 9th regiment of mounted riflemen, he was mobilized in September 1939 and found himself in the eastern borderlands, where he was arrested and imprisoned in Soviet prisons and labor camps. He fought in the ranks of the 1st Warsaw Armored Brigade. He was injured in the fights for Gdansk.

He left the reserve in 1967 from the position of the editor of "Przegląd Kwatermistrzowskiego" with the rank of a colonel. Since 1968, he has been a researcher at the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw.

After the World War II, he studied at the School of Journalists Reporters at the University of Warsaw. He obtained his doctorate for the thesis on Polish military journals in the years 1918–1939. In 1978, he obtained his postdoctoral degree at the University of Warsaw, submitting his work The Jewish Press in Warsaw 1823–1939. In 1993 he obtained the academic title of professor.
