Marianna Mroz [Polish: Marianna Mróz] (18 September 1903 – 14 May 2013) was a Polish centenarian who was the oldest recognized living person in Poland, though she was not the oldest known living person born in Poland as Alexander Imich and Israel Kristal were both older.
Biography
Marianna Mroz was born on 18 September 1903. As a 5-year-old girl, she went to an orphanage Marszalki, which was founded in by countess Helena von Bismarck-Bohlen (the wife of first German cancellor Otto von Bismarck).
Mroz was raised by the countess Helena. In 1918, after the independence of Poland was restored, Helena von Bismarck-Bohlen emigrated to Berlin and took 15 year old Marianna with her. She never married.
However, as an adult person Marianna Mroz returned to her home village of Marszalki [Polish: Marszałki], Greater Poland Voivodeship. In 1990, she became resident of a care home in Marszalki. In 2010, when questioned what was her longevity secret, Ms. Mroz mentioned not eating too much and including fruits and vegetables in diet with little amount of meat.
Ms. Marianna Mroz has always been very interested in politics. In 2010, at age 106, she voted in the 2010 Presidential election. In 2011, at age 108, she voted again - this time in the 2011 Parliamentiary election. During both elections, she was the older voter in the country. She would later say, "I voted for Poland."
Marianna Mroz became the oldest living person in Poland following the death of Józefa Stanisława Szyda of Lodz on 1 May 2013. She died 13 days later on 14 May 2013, in her care home in Marszalki, at the age of 109 years, 238 days.
Marianna Mroz set the longevity record of Greater Poland Voivodeship which lasted for two years until it was surpassed by Jadwiga Mlynek on 28 May 2015.
