Marie Guerne-Graf (26 March 1912 – 23 February 2024) was a Swiss supercentenarian who was the oldest living person in Switzerland at the time of her death. Her age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Marie Guerne was born in Lucerne, Canton of Lucerne, Switzerland on 26 March 1912. She married Henri Guerne in 1937. The couple had at least one son: Jean-Pierre Guerne.
Guerne moved to London, for a linguistic stay, then joined Paris, and Saint-Moritz, to perfect her knowledge.
In April 2019, when Guerne was 107, she met with 100 year-old Verene Cuenin and 100 year-old Elisabeth Domon, setting a combined age of 307 years.
She became the oldest known living person in Switzerland, following the death of 112-year-old Alice Schaufelberger-Hunziker on 16 November 2020, and the oldest known living person born in Switzerland following the death of 110-year-old Anna Leglise of France on 9 March 2021.
Guerne's age was verified by Flavio Stuber, and validated by the GRG on 12 June 2023.
Marie Guerne died in Orvin, Canton of Bern, Switzerland on 23 February 2024 at the age of 111 years, 334 days. Following her death, then 110-year-old Anna Furrer became the oldest known living person in Switzerland.
