Marie-Catherine Mora (27 March 1914-15 November 2024) was a Spanish-French supercentenarian who was one of the oldest emigrants in the world. Her age is currently verified by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Marie Mora was born on 27 March 1914 in Madrid, Spain. Her parents were from Bearn, France, and her father had moved to Madrid to work on a railway. Four months after she was born, her family returned to France. Her father was then mobilized to fight in the army and she did not see him again until after the war. Following the end of the war, her family moved back to Spain. She went to a French high school in Madrid and studied piano at the Madrid Conservatory.

At the age of 21, she married a man from Bearn and moved to the Ivory Coast. After a few trips back and forth from Africa, where her husband worked, the couple settled in Moumour, France. She had at least two children, including a son who lived through the Algerian War, and daughter who lives in Belgium.

At the age of 102, she moved into the nursing home Ma Maison, managed by the Petites Sœurs des Pauvres (Little Sisters of the Poor) in Billère, France.

She became the oldest person in the province of Bearn and the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department following the death of 108-year-old Marie Lartigau on 24 November 2022.

On 27 March 2024, she celebrated her 110th birthday. At the age of 110, she remains mentally sharp and participates in activities such as weekly yoga and gymnastics classes. She does crosswords daily. As of 2024, she has 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Marie Mora died in Billère, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France at the age of 110 years, 233 days.
