Mary Rosa "Marie" Pevovar (née Kammer; 27 September 1912 – 11 December 2022) was a British supercentenarian whose age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2024.

Biography[]

Pevovar was born Mary Rosa Kammer to Polish-born parents Jacob and Rebecca Kammer on 27 September 1912 in Stepney, London, England. She was the youngest of five siblings, and the only daughter. She lived with her parents until her 1935 marriage to Emanuel "Mannie" Pevovar.

The Pevovars moved to Potters Bar in Hertfordshire, where they raised their son David (1936 – 2000). They later moved to the West End of London and established a garment business. Pevovar, in her later years, claimed that she helped to popularise trousers for women after being inspired by a trip to southern France. Women's trousers became the highest-selling product of the Pevovars' business.

David Pevovar married in 1963 and had two children of his own, Jason and Lisa. Marie would tell stories to Lisa of how she was known as a 'fashionista' during her time running her business. She was widowed in 1987 after 52 years of marriage, and her son died in 2000 aged 64.

In 2015, aged 103, Pevovar was admitted to Knights Court Nursing Home in Edgware, London, due to mobility issues. For her 110th birthday in 2022, her birthday party was attended by the mayors of Harrow and a live singer. She died on 11 December 2022, at the age of 110 years, 75 days.
