Marietta Bouverne was born as the daughter of the working class family of Arthur Bouverne and his wife Maria Bracke, in the Ghent Dampoort district, on 25 December 1908. Bouverne attended the Emile Brauninstituut where the lessons were still entirely given in French at that time. She followed a training as a secretary, a position she held for many years. Bouverne married Albertus Dekens in Anderlecht in 1932. Later on, the couple returned to Ghent where Albert died in 1960. They had no children.

Bouverne remained active until old age. She was mainly interested in cultural topics. After her 100th birthday she started modeling. In addition, she also likes pets; especially the cats.
