Marion G. Stout (née Haseloff; 31 January 1896 – 7 April 2007) was an American supercentenarian whose age has been validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). She was the oldest known person in the US state of Tennessee at the time of her death.
Biography[]
Stout was born as Marion G. Haseloff in Brooklyn, New York, United States, on 31 January 1896 as the daughter of German immigrants. She later became an elementary school teacher, and then worked as a mathematician for a Wall Street brokerage.
In 1921, she married George H. Stout and had three daughters with him: Marion, Eleanor, and Catherine. George died in a car crash in 1936, and Stout never remarried. She retired in 1959 and moved to Tennessee, settling in Memphis before moving to Knoxville in 1963. She was a devout Christian throughout her life, the Church being very important to her.
Stout’s age claim was validated by Filipe Prista Lucas and Robert Young, and was officially validated by the GRG on 31 May 2006. In October of that year, she suffered a bout of pneumonia and moved to a retirement home in Maryville, Tennessee.
Stout died on 7 April 2007 from complications of another bout of pneumonia at the age of 111 years, 66 days. She was survived by her three daughters, nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
