Marjorie Edith May Macgown (17 September 1897 – 11 April 2008) was a British supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). At the time of her death, she was the oldest living person in Scotland.

Biography[]

Marjorie Macgown was born in Chislehurst, London, England, United Kingdom on 17 September 1897. After qualifying as a nurse, she travelled from her home in Gloucester to Hong Kong where she met her husband, Dr John Macgown. They returned to the UK in 1935, and lived in Lincolnshire before moving to Calumkill Farm, near Port Ellen, Islay, in 1952 with their three children. She also has three grand-children and two great-grandchildren as of the time of her death.

She was very active until her death, she credited her long life to hill-walking, fruit, porridge, oily fish, and a daily dram of malt whisky. She was also her county's oldest driver at the age of 102.

Marjorie Macgown died in Bowmore, Isle of Islay, Argyll and Bute, Scotland, United Kingdom on 11 April 2008 at the age of 110 years, 207 days.
