Marthe Suard (née Tanseau; 6 November 1914 – 12 February 2022) was a French Polynesian centenarian who was the oldest known living person in French Polynesia at the time of her death.

Early Life and Family[]

Marthe Suard was born in Faaa, Tahiti, French Polynesia on 6 November 1914 of a family of merchants. She had Chinese ancestry.

At the age of 17, she married Paul Suard, known as Paul Conscience. The couple had 7 children (including Fleurette and Yvonne). She worked as a trader in the shop of her husband in Papeete. Her husband died in the 1980s.

Longevity was present in her family - her mother died at the age of 103 and two of her brothers lived to be 99 and 90 years old, respectively.

Later Life[]

In November 2020, she celebrated her 106th birthday. At time, she 20 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

On 3 August 2021, Suard received her first dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine (against COVID-19). On 5 November 2021 (1 day in advance), she celebrated her 107th birthday. At the time, she was still able to read newspapers without glasses.

Marthe Suard died in the nursing home Les Orchidees, in Papeete, French Polynesia on 12 February 2022, at the age of 107 years, 98 days. At the time of her death, she was the oldest known person ever fron French Polynesia. Her age was later surpassed by Onehea Lepean.
