Mary Frances Alford (née Gilder; 1 January 1888 – 20 February 1998) was an American supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). She was one of the oldest known people in Texas at the time of her death.

Biography[]

Mary Alford was born as Mary Frances Gilder in Woodville, Texas, United States, on 1 January 1888. She was the eighth out of (at least) 11 children born to Henry and Jane (née Beans) Gilder. She married Chatman Alford on Christmas Day 1913, a day before his 30th birthday and a week before Mary's 26th.

By 1940, the couple had moved to Hardin, Texas. Mary and Chatman had no children. Chatman died on 3 January 1956 at the age of 72 years, 8 days. They had been married for 42 years, 9 days.

Alford remained in Hardin County for the rest of her life. Mary Alford died at Bur-Mont Nursing Home in Silsbee, Kountze, Hardin, Texas, United States, on 20 February 1998 at the age of 110 years, 50 days. At the time of her death, she had nine great-nieces; nine great-nephews; 13 great-great-nieces; 13 great-great nephews; seven great-great-great-nieces; and three great-great-great nephews.
