Mary Kunegunda Heitzig (née Schmieder; 13 April 1885 – 30 December 1996) was a validated American supercentenarian.
Biography
Mary Heitzig was born as Mary Schmieder in Beltress, Jersey County, Illinois, USA, on 13 April 1885. She married Joseph Heitzig in 1908 and had 11 children. Her husband died in 1957. She once went on a six-country tour of Europe and also visited Canada, New York and Washington. For many years an active member of a local quilting club, Heitzig also attended church on a daily basis until well into her centenarian years. When asked for the secrets to her longevity, she said simply "rest and prayers." Heitzig died on 30 December 1996 at age 111 years, 261 days in Illinois, United States.
