Mary Catherine McKenzie McPherson (4 February 1887 – 11 December 1996) was an Australian centenarian who was the oldest living person in Australia at the time of her death.
Biography[]
MacPherson was born in Levenstrath, New South Wales, Australia, on 4 February 1887 as one of 13 children born to Hugh McPherson (c.1838–1919) and Catherine McKenna (1848–1922). She never married nor had children, but helped to care for other family members.
Until the age of 103, MacPherson was able to mow the lawn at her residence in Mullumbimbi. When she was 106, she moved to Maclean to be cared for by relatives. On 24 June 1996, MacPherson became the oldest living person in Australia following the death of 111-year-old Ada Stockdale.
MacPherson died in Maclean, New South Wales, Australia, on 11 December 1996, at the age of 109 years, 311 days. Following her death, then-108-year-old Christina Cock became the oldest person in Australia.
