Mary Marques (neé Nunes) (11 February 1896 – 3 January 2008) was a Portuguese-American supercentenarian.
Biography[]
Maria (Mary) Nunes was born in Ansiao, Leiria District, Portugal on 11 February 1896. She married Albano Marques. The couple had two daughters: Mary Alice (married Cullers) and Mary Rosa. She followed her husband to the United States in 1936.
After arriving in New Jersey, she soon moved to Holyoke, which had a large Portuguese community at the time. She got a job as a seamstress in a hat shop with her eldest daughter, Mary Rosa.
Mary Marques died in the Julian J. Leavitt Family Jewish Nursing Home in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, USA, on 3 January 2008 at age 111 years, 326 days. At the time of her death, she was the oldest living person in Massachusetts.
