Masutaro Sato [Japanese: 佐藤増太郎] (16 January 1870 – 6 October 1978) was a Japanese centenarian who was the oldest (known) living person in Japan at the time of his death. He was also a potential candidate for the world's oldest man title from the death of Charlie Nelson on 20 August 1978 to his own death on 6 October 1978.

Biography[]

Masutaro Sato was born in Japan on 16 January 1870.

Following the death of 108-year-old Yozotaro Yoshikawa on 2 January 1976, Sato became the oldest living man in Japan. Following the death of 108-year-old Koume Kabira on 6 August 1977, he became the oldest (known) living person in Japan.

Masutaro Sato died in Shibata, Niigata Prefecture, Japan on 6 October 1978, at the age of 108 years, 263 days.
