Matsu Yoshikuni [Japanese: 吉國マツ] (10 February 1870 – 11 April 1979) was a Japanese centenarian who was the oldest (known) living person and the oldest living woman in Japan at the time of her death.
Biography[]
Matsu Yoshikuni was born in Japan on 10 February 1870. She was a survivor of the Hiroshima bombing. She lived at a nursing home in Beppu from 1948 to 1979.
Following the death of 108-year-old Koume Kabira on 6 August 1977, Yoshikuni became the oldest living woman in Japan. Following the death of 108-year-old Masutaro Sato on 6 October 1978, she became the oldest (known) living person in Japan.
Matsu Yoshikuni died of old age in Beppu, Oita, Japan on 11 April 1979, at the age of 109 years, 60 days.
