Biography[]
Snyder was born as Maude Elizabeth Renner in Clear Spring, Maryland, United States, on 11 November 1875 as the eldest child of Abraham T. Renner and Amanda M. (née Smith) Renner. She grew up on the family farm with her four siblings.
On 23 February 1897, she married farmer Isaac Clayton Snyder, and the couple had seven sons, three of whom Snyder outlived. She was widowed on 14 April 1952 after having been married for 55 years. In 1971, Snyder moved in with her son Eugene "Gene" and daughter-in-law Vada. She had a leg amputated due to poor circulation and was almost blind in one eye.
On Snyder’s 110th birthday in November 1985, she was reported to have been the oldest known person in Maryland. Her son Gene died in June 1986. Snyder herself died a few months afterwards on 3 September 1986 at the age of 110 years, 296 days. Her second-youngest son, Maurice (1914 – 2012), lived to be 98.
