Maude Bernice Williams (née Allen; 23 October 1883 – 26 November 1993) was an American verified supercentenarian.
Biography[]
Williams was born as Maude Allen in Fayette County, Ohio, to parents Arthur and Lenore Williams. When she was 4, they moved to Ridgeway, Hardin County. Growing up, she was forbidden to dance and play cards. She graduated from Mount Victory High School in 1902, being the first person in her family to do so. The same year, she married Leonidas Williams. The couple moved to a farmhouse in Rush Creeks. They had 4 children in total.
There was no electricity or running water where they lived. She used to sew her children’s clothes herself. In her sparetime, she used to read, sing by the piano and watch films. She became a widow in 1957. A few years later, aged 77, she flew an airplane for the first time.
She had a positive outlook on life and never worried about things that she couldn’t do anything about. Williams died on 26 November 1993, at the age of 110 years, 34 days. A biography over her life, called "Maude (1883–1993): She Grew Up with the Country", was written by her son Mardo Williams and published in 1996.
