Meta Marie Ilten (née Keiper; 7 September 1899 – 9 February 2012) was an American supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Meta Marie Keiper was born on 7 September 1899 in Atkins, Iowa, USA, one of eleven children born to Marie and Valentine Keiper. She was married to Lee Arthur Ilten Sr., with whom she had two children: Lee Jr. and Jack. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she served on many committees.
Members of her family had also experienced longevity: her cousins Alma Koehn (1893–1998) lived to be 105, Heinrike "Rike" Rinderknecht (1900–2003) lived to be 103 and Pauline Rinderknecht (1911–2013) lived to be 102, her first cousins once removed Esto Magdalene Jennings (1917–2017) lived to be 100 and Irvin "Irv" Keiper (1913–2014) lived to be 100. Irvin's wife Dolores Keiper (1917–2019) lived to be 102.
Meta Ilten died in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA on 9 February 2012 at the age of 112 years, 155 days. At the time of her death, she had eight grandchildren (one of whom was deceased), 18 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
