Longevity claimant |
Micajah (Machajy) Weiss (3 June 1800/1801/1815? – 22 September 1914) was an American longevity claimant. His age claim was later debunked.
Biography[]
Micajah Weiss claimed to have been born on 3 June 1800 (or 1801) in Pennsylvania, USA. He was a U.S. Civil War veteran.
Micajah Weiss died on 22 September 1914 in Sullivan County, New York, USA, at the claimed age of 114 years, 111 days (or 113 years, 111 days). His obituary was published in the New York Times on 26 September 1914.
Age Issues[]
Census data suggested he was born in the teens, raising speculation about how much was exaggerated. Another reference is a baptismal record, which gives a birth date of “Cajay” of 14 August 1815.
The 1860 Census lists him as “Mecago Wise”, age 42, of Paupack Township- meaning he was born about 1818. The census taker in 1910 listed his name as “Mairgah Wise”, age 100, born about 1810. The 1870 Census spelled his name as “Micajah Wise”, age 59, putting his birth year about 1811.
