Michael DeSantis Sr. (26 March 1900 – 3 December 2009) was a verified American centenarian.

Biography

Michael DeSantis was born in Charlieroi, Pennsylvania, USA on 26 March 1900 (claimed 26 May 1899) His parents were Quinton and Angela Volpi DeSantis but moved to Italy as a child and returned back in 1911. He also fought in the the first World War aged 15 and lost his index finger and a part of his thumb on his right hand. He married Mary Pasquarella in October 1919 and had 6 children, out of which 5 were alive as of his claimed 110th birthday aged 88, 83, 81, 77 and 80, he also had 21 grand-children, 33 great grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren. He outlived one of his daughters, one great-great-grandson and 4 of his siblings. He was survived by his brother John who was 97 when he died and his sister-in-law Rose. DeSantis was a welder for Republic Steel for 38 years. He was a member of St. Patrick Church in Hubbard, the Knights of Columbus and the Adua Lodge. Michael enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing cards with the Hubbard Senior Citizens.

There was also a history of longevity in his family: his grandfather Camillo Di Sante (1832–1936) lived to be circa 104, his brother John DeSantis (1912–2014) lived to be 102, one of his sisters lived to be 99, and another lived to be 96. In addition, his daughter Alice Casey died in 2019 at the age of 98.

Michael DeSantis died in Hubbard, Ohio, USA on 3 December 2009. His claimed age of 110 years, 191 days was debunked by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG), though his final age was verified as being 109 years, 252 days.
