Michele Cicora (15 September 1913 - 31 March 2024) was an Italian supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). At the time of his death, he was the oldest known living man in Italy.
Biography
Michele Cicora was born in San Giuliano di Puglia, Campobasso, Molise Region, Italy on 15 September 1913.
In his life he worked for a long time in England and Venezuela. At retirement age he returned to live in his hometown with one of his daughters.
In September 2023, he celebrated his 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian. At that time he was still very lucid and loved to tell his many life experiences to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and he thanked everyone for their good wishes, expressing gratitude to the Lord for these long and intense years.
Michele Cicora died in San Giuliano di Puglia, Campobasso, Molise Region, Italy on 31 March 2024, on Easter evening, at the age of 110 years, 197 days.
Longevity records
Cicora became the last living Italian man born in 1913, following the death of Biagio Muccio, younger by only one day, on 26 May 2023.
On 1 June 2023, at the age of 109 years, 259 days, Cicora surpassed the age of Crescenza Zecchino (17 March 1899 – 30 November 2008), becoming the oldest person ever in the region of Molise. When he turned 110 a few months later, he became the first living supercentenarian in Molise.
He became the oldest known living man in Italy, following the death of 111-year-old Tripolino Giannini on 31 December 2023.
At the time of his death he was the fifth longest-lived living man in Europe and among the top twenty in the world. He is also the third verified supercentenarian born in Molise, after Louisa Delfino (1886–1999) and Antonia Amore (1905–2016), both of whom died in the United States.
Maria Arcangela Cirucci (born on 11 May 1915) become the oldest living person in Molise, while Vitantonio Lovallo become the oldest living man in Italy.
His age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) on 4 December 2023.
