Mildred Elizabeth "Dixie" Kern (née Harris; 15 December 1911 – 9 March 2022) was an American supercentenarian whose age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2023.
Biography[]
Mildred Elizabeth "Dixie" Kern was born on 15 December 1911 in Athens, Alabama, United States to William and Ida Harris. After her father died, Mildred and her mother moved to Fremont, Ohio, United States where she would meet and marry Alfred "Al" Kern, who was a percussion musician during the Big Band era. In 1935 the couple relocated to California and eventually settled in Bakersfield.
She worked at many different jobs over the years and retired from Smith's Bakery after 20 years of employment.
Her husband died in 2000. She was able to remain in her home until the final two weeks of her life when she developed renal failure.
Mildred E. Dixie Kern died in Bakersfield, California, United States on 9 March 2022, at the age of 110 years, 84 days.
