Biography
Lewis was born in Zebra, Missouri, on 25 December 1907, to John Stephen McCrory and Maude Ezard McCrory. The town of Zebra was later submerged under the Lake of the Ozarks, one of the largest man-made lakes in the United States. She was the second-youngest of five siblings, and her grandfather lived to the age of 102.
Lewis attended William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri; Missouri State University; and Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. She spent 30 years working as an elementary school educator. She married Earl Lewis in 1930, and the couple had two children: Tom and Roseann. Earl died in 1993.
Lewis moved to live with her daughter in Estero, Florida, when she was around 100 years old. At the time of her 110th birthday in 2017, she was reported to be a little hard of hearing, but didn't take much medication. She died on 9 December 2018 at the age of 110 years, 349 days.
