Miriam "Mim" Moore (née Teufel; 28 January 1907 – 11 May 2018) was an American supercentenarian who was one of the oldest known people in Pennsylvania at the time of her death. Her age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Miriam Moore was born Miriam Teufel in Columbia, Pennsylvania, USA on 28 January 1907 to Mathias and Ellen Teufel. She was the fifth of six children. Her parents died when she was young; she recalled her mother having tuberculosis. She remembers swimming in the Susquehanna River and at the Locust Heights pool in Columbia. During her childhood, she had a dog named Trixie.
Moore became a weaver when she was old enough to work. She made fabric at the former Schwartzenbach-Huber Silk Mill. She enjoyed dancing, especially the waltz. She and several other girls would go dancing every Wednesday and Saturday. It was at one of these dances that Miriam met her future husband, J. Edwin Moore. They later married, and had a son, J. Edwin Moore Jr. (called Eddie by his mother). Her husband died in 1984. Her son was still alive at the time of her 110th birthday in 2017. She also has two grandchildren.
In her later years, Moore took up reading. She was a lifelong member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran in Columbia, and taught a Sunday School for many years. Her hobbies included singing, bingo, cards, and exercise classes.
When she was 106, Moore moved into Luther Acres in Lititz, Pennsylvania. On her 110th birthday in 2017, she was given a card made by students of Bonfield Elementary School in Lititz. Her advice for a long and happy life was to have faith in God.
Miriam Moore died in Lititz, Pennsylvania, USA on 11 May 2018 the age of 111 years, 103 days.
