Moacyr Nunes Barroso (31 March 1909 – 20 April 2020) was a Brazilian supercentenarian whose age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2020.

Biography[]

Nunes Barroso was born in Guanhaes, Vale do Rio Doce, Minas Gerais, Brazil on 31 March 1909. His parents were Pedro Barroso Alves and Aneglia Nunes Barroso. He had five siblings: Zulmira, Zilah, Graciema, Iracema, and Zeli.

His wife Jandira Nunes Coelho died in July 1987 at the age of 77. They had six children: Carmen (born 1934), Celme (born 1936), Enny (aged 79 in May 2019), Jorge (aged 73 in May 2019), Helena (aged 72 in May 2019), Paulo (born 1948), and adopted a seventh child, Neusa (aged 62 in May 2019), the couple's goddaughter who was adopted at the age of 9.

Later Life[]

Nunes Barroso was reported to have been very active during his centenarian years. He said his favorite past time was playing cards and eating fried pork rinds.

Nunes Barroso died in Guanhaes, Vale do Rio Doce, Minas Gerais, Brazil on 20 April 2020 at the age of 111 years, 20 days.

He is the last validated Brazilian man to be born during the government of President Afonso Pena (1906-1909).
