Amalia "Molly" Schmidt (nee Krause) (22 July 1905 – 8 May 2017) was a Canadian-American supercentenarian whose age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Molly Schmidt was born in Stony Plain, Alberta, Canada on 22 July 1905 to Wilhelm and Margareta Schultz Krause. She was one of 12 children. Her father had a brother in Chehalis, Washington, and the family moved there in 1923. Not long after they came to Chehalis where Molly met George Stohr, her first husband. They married on 24 July 1927 and had two sons George (born 1928) and Don (born 1932). The family lived in Aberdeen, Washington, for a time, where Stohr worked at a mill. The couple divorced and Schmidt moved back to Chehalis. In 1945, a friend told her that her brother, Albert Schmidt, needed a cook for harvest at his farm near Ritzville, They married later that year, on 15 December. Their only son, Charles was born in 1946. At the time of her 110th birthday in 2015, she did not have living brothers or sisters. Schmidt took a job as a cook in a nursing home when she was 65 and continued working there into her 70s. She didn’t give up driving until she was 99, and lived in her own apartment until she was 100.
Schmidt died in Ritzville, Washington, USA on 8 May 2017 at the age of 111 years, 290 days.
