Nahi Yonamine [Japanese: 與那嶺ナヒ] (9 March 1908 – 7 February 2022) was a Japanese supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Nahi Yonamine was born in Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan on 9 March 1908, the second of four siblings. She had one older brother and two younger brothers.

She moved to Kume Island at the age of 12. At the age of 15, she married Fukusei Yonamine, seven years her senior, on Kume Island. After marriage, she gave birth to her eldest daughter at the age of 15 and her eighth child at the age of 41.

She started her business at the age of 25, carrying vegetables and livestock from Kumejima to the main island of Okinawa and selling them in carriages. When she was 90, she moved to Kitanakagusuku Village on the main island of Okinawa, and when she was 96, she moved into the nursing home "Ai no Mura". She had no major medical or injured history, and she had also been in business for a long time, so she had a sociable and cheerful personality.

In September 2018, she was reported to be the seventh-oldest living person in Okinawa. In September 2021, she was reported to be the second-oldest living person in Okinawa, after Matsu Gaja (born February 1908).

As of September 2021, she had five living children.

Yonamine's age was verified by Atsuo Tamaki, Yu Li, Yumi Yamamoto, Takeo Inishie, and MHLW of Japan, and validated by the GRG on 20 September 2021.

Nahi Yonamine died in Kitanakagusuku, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan on 7 February 2022 at the age of 113 years 335 days. At the time of her death, she was the fifth-oldest validated living person in Japan, behind Kane Tanaka, Fusa Tatsumi, an anonymous woman of Hyogo, and Kahoru Furuya.
