Nana (Nanu) Tsukovna Shaova (Russian: Нана (Нану) Цуковна Шаова; 1890? – 21 January 2019) was a Russian longevity claim who claimed to be the world's oldest person. Her age is currently unvalidated by the Guinness World Records (GWR).
Biography
Nana claimed to have been born in 1890 in the village of Zayukovo, Baksansky District, Kabardino-Balkaria, Russian Empire (present-day Russia) in a large family. She worked on the collective farm. Her first husband died at the front in the Great Patriotic War. She married again in 1946 and spend 36 years with her second husband.
Her second husband died in 1982 at the age of 96. She had eight children (three of them died as a children).
Nana was recognized as the oldest person in Russia in 2017, receiving a certificate from the Russian Book of Records (which, however, is unofficial and not internationally recognized). However, the certificate lists her birthday as 15 July 1890, but according to her son, Hussein, she was born on 25 May. The secret of longevity, according to Nana, is a healthy lifestyle, traditional food, and sweets. In April 2018, she had four children (three sons and one daughter), 19 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Shaova died on 21 January 2019 in the village of Zayukovo, Baksansky District, Kabardino-Balkaria, Russia at the claimed age of 128 years, 186–236 days.
