Nathan Edward Cook (10 October 1885 – 16 September 1992) was an American centenarian. When he died at the age of 106 he was the oldest surviving American war veteran, Nathan was the last surviving Philippine-American War veteran.
Biography[]
Nathan Cook was born on 10 October 1885 in Hersey, Osceola, Michigan, USA to William Cook (1840–1895) and Ellen Kellet Cook (1843–1916) and 10 siblings.
When Nathan was 9, his father died, after his father died, Nathan lived with his mother and his brother in-laws family. On 19 April 1901, Enlisted in the Phillipene- American war in the navy as a cabin boy after seeing one of the military posters, he was 15, he came back safe and sound a few years later. On 29 October 1905, Nathan married the love of his life Elizabeth Lauterbach Cook (1887–1982), they met at royal ball, together they had 11 children, the second born child Francis William Cook (1911–1911) who died the same year as his birth.
During World War 1, Nathan commanded a Sub Chaser that sank 2 German U-Boats. Nathan fought in World War 2 amazingly and commanded a sea-going tug stationed in Haiti. Nathan was in the army until he discharged on 11 November 1945, which ended his 44 year military career. Nathan moved Arizona in the mid 1900s, his wife died in 1982.
Nathan Cook died on 16 September 1992 at the age of 106 years, 342 days in Phoenix, Arizona, USA which is where he was buried.
