Ndue Melyshi was born in Kthelle, Lezhe County, Ottoman Empire (now Albania) on 13 February 1911. However, in the most recent article mentioning his death, he claimed that his baptism certificate "states" he was born in 1909, albeit the year being 1911 on his passport.

He fled the country in 1952, moving first to Yugoslavia, Italy and West Germany, and eventually settling in the United States, where he lived until 1992. He spent his later years in Shkoder.
