Nell Johnson (née Ladd; 6 October 1908 – 11 November 2018) was an American supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group.
Biography
Nell Johnson was born as Nell Ladd in Mangum, Oklahoma, USA, on 6 October 1908. She was the third child of Tom and Roxie Ladd. After her mother's death at the age of 39, Nell and her older brother, Burt, moved to live with their grandmother, Mattie Lee Cotton, and other relatives. They also lived with a maternal aunt and uncle, Nell and Oscar Norwood, on a ranch in Endee, New Mexico.
In 1927, Johnson married her childhood sweetheart, George Norwood. They first lived in El Reno, Oklahoma, where they owned a drugstore, and later in Texas. In 1950, she married William Johnson, and their marriage lasted for 56 years. She was an avid gardener and had a victory garden during World War II. She also enjoyed playing duplicate bridge and acquired enough points to become a life master.
Johnson lived independently up until she was age 109. She died in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA, on 11 November 2018 at the age of 110 years, 36 days.
