Ellen Reta "Nellie" Harris (née Wishart; 14 September 1906 – 19 December 2016) was a Canadian supercentenarian whose age has been validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Nellie Harris was born in Wishart Point, New Brunswick, Canada, on 14 September 1906 to Robert and Janet Wishart. She was one of seven siblings. As a young woman, Harris moved to the United States to become a nurse's aide. Her first husband was Kenneth Guile; her second was John Edward Harris. She had four children.
Harris survived cancer three times. She lived on her own until the age of 101, before moving into a nursing home in Tabusintac, New Brunswick. She said her secret to longevity was "never skipping desert". She died on 19 December 2016 at the age of 110 years, 96 days.
