Nettie Johnson (née Hollis; formely Matthais; 22 January 1884 – 26 June 1995) was an American supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Nettie Johnson was born as Nettie Hollis in Altheimer, Arkansas, USA on 22 January 1884. Her parents were Dr. Nathaniel Hollis and Martha (née Barksdale) Hollis. She graduated from Branch Normal College (now University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff) in 1903. Her father died in 1906.
After graduating from Branch Normal, she was awarded a music scholarship to attend Chicago Musical College. She taught school for two years. She later studied at Burnham School of Beauty in Chicago.
She married Joseph Matthais, a Episcopal priest. She worked as a beauty consultant. Later she married Dr. R. T. Johnson, a dentist.
Nettie Johnson died at Arkansas Convalescent Center in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, USA on 26 June 1995 at the age of 111 years, 155 days.
