Nikola Radelic [Croatian: Radelić] (11 Septmber 1907 – 20 July 2012) was a Croatian centenarian who, at the time of his death, was the oldest firefighter in Croatia, as well as the second oldest known living man in Croatia, behind Mateo Palaversic.
Biography[]
Nikola Radelic was born in the village Stivica, Brod-Posavina County, Austria-Hungary (present-day Croatia) on 11 September 1907. He was the oldest firefighter of the Voluntary Fire Brigade and certainly the oldest firefighter of Brod-Posavina County. He became a member of DVD Stivica after the fire in the barn near Nikola Radelic, when the fire brigade was founded in 1927. Due to aggravating circumstances, the company was registered in 1933. One of the founders and members for the registration of the company was Radelic.
In September 2007, the people of village Stivica celebrated, especially the Radelic family, whose Dido, as he was affectionately called, celebrated rare anniversaries. He was 100 years old, vital, healthy and remembered details from a long and not at all easy life. Locals and his firefighters from the DVD Stivica, celebrated his 100th birthday and 80 years of his firefighting. That was the reason why representatives of about twenty voluntary fire brigades came and marked the jubilee of the oldest firefighter in Croatia.
Radelic died in in the village Stivica, Brod-Posavina County, Croatia on 20 July 2012, at the age of 104 years, 313 days.
