Centenarian

Nisaburo Matsuyama [Japanese: 松山二三郎] (10 October 1881 – 3 April 1991) was a Japanese centenarian who was the oldest living man in Japan at the time of his death.

Biography[]

Nisaburo Matsuyama was born on 18 October 1881 in Japan. His wife died in 1951, and he was still able to work his farm until he was around 104.

Following the death of 107-year-old Kiku Kashi on 17 April 1988, Matsuyama became the oldest living person in Ishikawa Prefecture. Following the death of 109-year-old Kiichi Fujiwara, he became the oldest living man in Japan.

Matsuyama's fifth daughter reported that he was bedridden near his death, but still enjoyed newspapers and television, and attributed his longevity to a policy of "don't worry and moderation in eating."

Nisaburo Matsuyama died in Komatsu, Ishikawa prefecture, Japan on 3 April 1991, at the age of 109 years, 175 days. Some reports mistakenly stated he died a year earlier. He was succeeded as Japan's oldest man by Shimetaro Hara.
