Biography[]

Early Life and Family[]

Oberia Coffin claimed to have been born on 1 December 1883 in Dalby Springs, Texas, USA. Her father, Pink Coffin, was believed to have been a former slave.

Coffin was said to be the oldest out of 13 or 14 children. As a young woman, she apparently worked in cotton fields.

Later Life and Death[]

Coffin was a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church. In 1992, she moved into a nursing home in De Kalb, Texas, and she also had a leg amputated.

Around 1996, after she was left abandoned and neglected, Coffin met a stranger, Gwendolyn Traylor, who cared for her for the rest of her life.

Oberia Coffin died from old age in Texarkana, Texas, USA on 18 October 2006, at the claimed age of 122 years, 321 days.

Age Issues[]

Oberia Coffin's Social Security records listed her alleged date of birth as 1 December 1883. However, since she had no known birth certificate, living relatives, or any known record of her in the 1900 census, her age cannot be verified.
