Octavie Augustine (14 August 1912 – 9 September 2023) was a Saint Lucian supercentenarian who was the oldest known living person in Saint Lucia at the time of her death. Her age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Octavie Augustine was born in Saint Lucia on 14 August 1912. She married from an early age, but also lost her husband early on, and never bore any biological children. She worked as a farm produce vendor.
At the age of 99, her right leg was amputated after a bandaging accident.
At the age of 108, Augustine was very much conscious of aesthetics and loves to dress up in pretty clothes and fancy earrings.
In June 2021, at the age of 108, she was visited by the former Prime Minister Kenny D. Anthony. Anthony stated that Augustine wanted to meet him before she died.
In August 2022, she celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.
Following the death of 111-year-old Bernadette Thompson on 15 February 2023, she became the oldest known living person in Saint Lucia.
Octavie Augustine died in Mongouge, Choiseul, Saint Lucia on 9 September 2023 at the age of 111 years, 26 days.
