Odrick Vaught (15 May 1865 (claimed 18 May 1844) – 15 February 1968) was a claimed 123 year old supercentenarian and it turned out he was a 102 year old centenarian. Odrick's oldest daughter Queenie (Queen) Whitaker who died at the age of 99 in 2004 – claimed Odrick was born on 18 May 1844, and that Odrick was 20 years old when President Lincoln was assassinated, when in reality Odrick was born into slavery on 15 May 1865 in Little River, South Carolina. According to Findagrave.com- Odrick Vaught possibly the oldest American, died Sunday in a Myrtle Beach Hospital. He would have been 124 on his next birthday. Born in slavery on 18 May 1844 Vaught had lived all his life in the Little River Neck. His doctor N.F. Nixon, said he believed the man was as old as he said, although no vital statistic records were kept in the state at the time of his birth. The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's AME Church. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Samuel Vaught, Adam Vaught, James Vaught, all of Little River; four daughters, Mrs. Paul McCoy, and Mrs. Molly Jean Jackson, both of Little River, Mrs. Queenie Whitaker of Marion, and Mrs. Francis Hamilton of New York, N.Y. But records show Odrick was born on 15 May 1865, Odrick was seriously ill for a few months until his passing because of his illness on 15 February 1968. Odrick passed away in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina at the age of 102 years, 276 days (claimed 123 years, 273 days).
