Olyra de Miranda Netto (6 September 1912 – 9 May 2023) was a Brazilian supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Olyra de Miranda Netto was born on 6 September 1912 in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, to Renato Telles de Miranda and Ondina Barros de Miranda. Her father named her "Olyra" after the Portuguese word for "lyre," lira. She had two sisters: Ondilina and Omar, and one brother: Renato.

Netto studied at the Souza Lobo school for five years before her family moved to Sapucaia, Rio de Janeiro. She then moved back with her family to Canoas, a city just north of Porto Alegre, after her father bought farmland there. At the farm, she took care of her brother Renato.

Later Life and Death[]

Netto met her husband Benjamin, at a dance in Canoas. The two were engaged in 1933. After they married, they moved to Joacaba, Santa Catarina, Brazil. They had five daughters: Maria de Lourdes, Noemia, Carmen, Ana Lucia, and Elvira. The family later moved to the Brazilian state of Pernambuco.

Netto liked to dance, especially waltzing. She and Benjamin were well known for their waltzing in Canoas. She also enjoyed singing and was a member of the Sao Geraldo church choir.

In September 2022, Netto celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.

Olyra de Miranda Netto died on 9 May 2023 in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, at the age of 110 years, 245 days. She had 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-granddaughter.
