Biography

Pablo Roy was born in Guadalajara, Castilla-La Mancha on 15 January 1884. He married and the couple had one son, Victorino, around 1910/1911. He worked as a farmer, but also had other occupations such as a musician and trader as well as being in the oil business. Pablo’s wife and mother both died in a power line accident that electrocuted them. Roy was his father’s last name while Morales refers to his mother’s last name.

He later moved to Madrid, where he lived for the remainder of his life. At the time of his 110th birthday in 1994, he stated that he was in good health (aside from poor eyesight and hearing) and wouldn’t mind living a few more years. Victorino was 82 years old at the time.

Pablo Roy became the oldest living man in Spain after the death of Josep Armengol-Jover on 20 January 1994. For the last six days of his life, Roy was the second-oldest living person in Spain, behind Carmen Figueiro. He died in Madrid, Spain on 26 January 1994 at the age of 110 years, 11 days. At the time of his death, he was not only the oldest man in Spain, but also in the whole of Europe. After his death, Gregorio Merino became the oldest living man in Spain, and Emile Fourcade of France became the oldest living man in Europe.
