Victoria Pauline Legare (née Sessions; 20 April 1909 – 4 January 2020) was an American supercentenarian whose age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2024.
Biography[]
Legare was born as Pauline Victoria Sessions in Georgetown, South Carolina, USA, on 20 April 1909. She has lived in the city her entire life. After graduating high school, she worked as an elementary school teacher. After college, she moved to New York and went to work in the kitchen of future president Franklin D. Roosevelt (she would move back to Georgetown a few years later). During the Roosevelt presidency, she baked cakes for the Roosevelts and foreign dignitaries. She gained Social Security after writing a letter to Eleanor Roosevelt.
Legare married and had three children. She also had five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren at the time of her 108th birthday. Legare voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, and became a supercentenarian in April 2019. She died on 4 January 2020 at the age of 110 years, 259 days.
