Paulo Fernandes de Sa (Portuguese: Sá; 26 July 1881 – 23 December 1989) was a Portuguese centenarian who was the oldest known living man in Portugal and probably the second-oldest living person in the country (behind Rosa Cadete) at time of his death.
Biography[]
Paulo Fernandes de Sa was born in Esmoriz, Aveiro District, Portugal on 26 July 1881. His parents were Joaquim Fernandes de Sa and Luiza Dias Pinto. He married in 1912 with Adelina Clemencia Fernandes and became a widow in 1970. The couple had five children, three of them were alive in 1986.
He worked in insurance fundraising, and was still working at the age of 105. He was also a banking correspondent and farmer.
His secret to longevity was to drink a glass of lemon juice every morning for the past 50 years. He rode a bycicle until he was 98 years old and was still writting letters at the age of 105. Paulo said he was sexually active until the age of 90.
At the age of 105 he was reported as the oldest living man in Aveiro District and probably the oldest living man in Portugal.
Fernandes de Sa died in Esmoriz, Aveiro District, Portugal, on 23 December 1989 at the age of 108 years, 150 days, as it is written in a note in his baptism record and also in the 1989 demographic statistics of Portugal.
