Pavel Vasilev Hristov (Bulgarian: Павел Василев Христов; 23 June 1909 – 30 April 2017) was a Bulgarian centenarian who was the oldest known living person in Bulgaria since death of Maria Muhova on 24 March 2016 until his death.

Biography[]

Pavel Vasilev Hristov was born in the village of Vetren, Kyustendil Province, Kingdom of Bulgaria (present-day Bulgaria) on 23 June 1909. His mother was Macedonian. He was the fifth child in the family of six. Two of his siblings died really young. His mother died when he was 6 years old. In 1938, he moved to village of the Zhelezari.

At the age of 27, he married Yova, with whom he raised three sons: Malin, Gencho, and Ignat. He was a farmer and a cattle-breeder for all his life. He never visited doctor or dentist. He prefered home-made food - vegetables from the garden, goat's milk, cheese and meat. In 1980, he moved to village of the Marash, Shumen Municipality where he lived with his youngest son, Ignat (aged 75 in 2014). In 2014, he had two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Vasilev Hristov died in Marash, Shumen Municipality, Bulgaria on 30 April 2017 at the age of 107 years, 311 days. Following the his death, then 107-year-old Matena Zokova became the oldest known living person in Bulgaria.
