Eleanor "Peg" Griffin (25 May 1904 – 6 October 2014) was a New Zealandian supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). She was the oldest known person in New Zealand when she died.
Biography[]
Peg Griffin was born on 25 May 1904 in New Zealand. She had a long-lived family: her mother lived to 90, her maternal grandmother to 91, her maternal great-grandmother to 89, her paternal grandmother lived to 90 and her great-grandmother to 70.[1] Her sister, Betty Fleming (28 September 1909 – 6 February 2017) lived to age 107 years, 131 days.[2] Peg and Betty were the oldest living siblings in New Zealand until her death. She became the oldest person in New Zealand on 24 October 2013, then aged 109, following the death of 110-year-old Maudie Wilson.
Peg Griffin died on 6 October 2014 in Kapiti, Wellington, New Zealand, at the age of 110 years, 134 days.[3][4] She was succeeded as New Zealand's oldest person by 107-year-old Olive Oldfield.
